In this talk Dr James Rowlands, (Assistant Professor of Sociology, Durham University), will draw upon his empirical research and practice experience of the rationales and practices of reviewing deaths that arise in the context of domestic abuse. What is it we are seeking to achieve, and what might be the challenges and pitfalls?

With reference to his recently published book, Dr Rowlands will share the findings from his research in the UK, and internationally, and draw upon his own work in reviewing such deaths.

About our speaker:

Dr James Rowlands is an Assistant Professor in Sociology in the Department of Sociology. Before joining Durham, James was a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Westminster.

James has a practice background. Before completing a PhD, he originally trained as a Social Worker and then became an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA), working in frontline roles with victims and survivors and also perpetrators of domestic abuse. James also worked in a variety of leadership and policy roles in the domestic abuse sector.
