Abstract:
The Role of Cross-Sector Partnerships in Advancing Child Protection and Family Well-being
Globally, about a billion children experience some form of violence each year. The consequences are far-reaching and include poor mental health, poor development, school failure, and risky behaviours. These outcomes are hugely costly to multiple systems. Fortunately, there is now knowledge on how to address child maltreatment. Evidence-based, playful parenting programmes are effective in improving positive parenting skills, reducing violence, and improving child outcomes and family well-being. To reach every family that needs it, programmes must be adapted to contexts and scaled. But this cannot be achieved through siloed efforts; cross-sector partnerships are necessary. Drawing on the collaborative work of the Global Parenting Initiative (GPI), this keynote will explore the vital role of cross-sector partnerships in advancing child protection and supporting families. It will highlight how the GPI is working with researchers, foundations, implementers, policymakers, and communities to scale up parenting programmes through digital innovations and context-specific resources, and by embedding parenting programmes in systems. This talk will also explore the key factors that drive effective cross-sector collaboration, alongside common challenges and practical strategies for overcoming them. By working together across sectors and systems, we can ensure all children grow up safe, supported, and able to reach their full potential.
This event will take place in Seminar Room 1, Chrystal Macmillan Building, with breakout sessions in Seminar Room 2 and the Violet Laidlaw Room (6.02). Attendees will be provided with a full agenda and schedule in due course.
Refreshments and a light lunch will be served.
