The Centre of African Studies (CAS) has launched a new three-year PhD scholarship on Religion and Mobility in the African City, in partnership with the University of Leiden.

The scholarship will begin in September 2022 and will be run between CAS and the African Studies Centre (ASCL) at Leiden.

The successful applicant will be based at the University of Edinburgh's PhD programme in African Studies, and will be co-supervised by Dr Barbara Bompani and Prof Rijk van Dijk.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on 1 March 2022 with online interviews expected in March/April 2022.

This PhD position is linked to the CAS-ASCL joint doctoral programme on urban studies in Africa. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the exchanges that this programme features together with the fellow PhD students who are already part of the programme.

Supervisory meetings with both supervisors will run online regularly while there will be opportunities for in-person meetings with supervisors in Edinburgh and in Leiden during mutual exchange visits.
