School of Social and Political Science (SPS) student Syjil Ramjuthan has won the Championing Activism award from the Edinburgh University Students’ Association (EUSA) for her work in feminist activism.

EUSA’s Student Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of students and student groups at the University of Edinburgh, celebrating the hard work, dedication and leadership of our student body. The Championing Activism prize is awarded to individuals or groups who have shown outstanding leadership in campaigning for positive social, educational, political or environmental change, supported students to organise around a cause they believe in, and effectively advocated for and empowered those impacted by an issue.

Syjil, a third-year student in Social Policy and Quantitative Methods at SPS, won the award for her work as the president of the University of Edinburgh’s Feminist Society. In this role, she has organised peaceful protests, published open letters addressing sexual violence on campus, and shed light on critical issues to promote meaningful dialogue among students, faculty and administration.

Syjil has also hosted weekly discussion groups with fellow students on topics ranging from contraception to consent, providing a safe space for students to engage in open dialogue, share their experiences and access valuable resources.

Congratulations on this great recognition of your hard work, Syjil!
