Background
Native to Tepotzotlan, Mexico, Adolfo is an interdisciplinary academic interested in researching and teaching topics related to energy systems, low-carbon transitions and renewable energy technologies.
Adolfo is a Lecturer in Energy, Society and Sustainability at the School of Social and Political Sciences (Science, Technology and Innovation Studies). He holds a bachelor's in physics from the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) and an MSc in sustainable energy systems from the University of Edinburgh School of Engineering. He completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh by studying utility-scale wind power development in southern Mexico through a social science approach and the conceptual lenses of energy justice. Previous to his current role, Adolfo worked as a research fellow at the University of Birmingham, supporting the Energy Solidarity in Latin America (ESLatinA) project and as a teaching fellow for the University of Edinburgh, developing and organising MSc courses on "Energy Systems and Technologies" and "Energy and Climate Change". Adolfo also has experience leading and participating in different interdisciplinary research projects and as an energy consultant in distributed solar power in Mexico and community renewables in Chile and the UK.
As a physicist who transitioned towards social sciences, Adolfo has a strong interest in interdisciplinary research and mixed methods, a combination he believes to be particularly well suited to unearth the complexities of the topics existing in energy research. Therefore, he is always interested in talking to people from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplinary fields interested in exploring the issues related to energy systems.
In his free time, Adolfo enjoys spending time with his beloved ones, travelling to different countries, hiking, reading (history and sci-fi), and practising sports (especially boxing).
