Background

Juliette joined the university in April of 2021 as Research Fellow.  Her current research interests and expertise centre around the urban food system and agriculture; exploring the changing character of urban retail development and informal production and distribution of food in contemporary Africa.

Juliette holds a  Ph.D. in African Studies from the University of Edinburgh (2021). Her work broadly speaking, focuses on the transformations in retail supply chains and food in Sub-Saharan Africa, assessing the delivery mechanisms needed to ensure sustainable food provisioning in Kenya. Her research cuts across various disciplines, including urban and human geography, development economics, retail, and agricultural systems.

The rapidly changing food system is one of the primary challenges facing the right to food and a more human economy. Key to this is understanding the complexities of food and supply chains in Sub-Saharan Africa from production to consumption and assessing the delivery mechanisms needed to ensure sustainable food provisioning.

Juliette also holds an MSc in Development Planning and Administration from University College London.
