Description

How does leadership differ when trying to implement projects in diverse situations within the context of contrasting demands and with the impact and presence of external factors such as war, gender discrimination, violence, threats, legacy of colonialism and apathy?

Leadership in volatile and conflict-affected contexts can also be a politically sensitive activity!

The complex nature of disasters and conflict often requires leadership approaches in the field that may seem inconsistent and even contradictory. Can an effective leader in one situation transfer capacity, skill and leadership style to another setting? Join expert international development consultant Lorraine Porteous to find out how leadership differs when trying to implement projects in diverse situations within the context of contrasting demands and with the impact and presence of external factors such as war, gender discrimination, violence, threats, legacy of colonialism and apathy? Can we really create clarity out of chaos especially when you consider leadership in volatile and conflict-affected contexts can also be a politically sensitive activity?

Please note: This session will be facilitated in-person in CMB Violet Laidlaw Room.
